Week 9 IDP Waiver Wire

What a time to be alive! What more can we say? I’m sure I could fill several pages with personal opinions and complaints. One thing I’ve found, no one cares!

What I will tell is a personal preference when it comes to waivers! In IDP leagues the player pool is so vast. Our benches are massive. A lot of players fall through the cracks. In some cases I do one of two things!

First, wait for the initial rush of waivers to clear. Then go back in and add your guy for free! Not burning your waiver wire priority. Not spending a dime of you FAAB!

Second, after that first wave of waivers have cleared go back at look at all the recent transactions. It’s like going to a garage sale! Some times a team owner drops a very worthy add cause they were in a pinch! Another mans trash is another mans treasure!

Always double check to see if these upcoming players are free agents. Takes just a second and could pay off big time!

Robert Spillane (LB - Pittsburgh Steelers)

Hopefully you paid attention and added Rob for week 8! He scored Sunday on an interception return! Aside from that he had a MONSTER game! 10 solo tackles, 1 assisted, 1 INT, 1 fumble recovery and 2 passes defended! That is LB1 top-notch production! There is a chance Spillane loses some playing time with the recent addition of Avery Williamson. Coach Tomlin is a loyal guy so hard to see him scaling back Rob’s playing time! ADD Spillane!

Brian Burns (DL - Carolina Panthers)

Burns moves around on the DL from time to time. He is very talented and should be added in all formats. Burns has had 20 total tackles combined through his last 5 games. He has a very safe tackle floor mixed in with a sack from time-to-time.

Josh Allen (DE- Jacksonville Jaguars)

Josh has been inactive in 3 of 8 total games in 2020. Kid has massive talent. He made the Pro Bowl as a rookie but has faded away into obscurity since. In week 7 he played 79% of the defensive snaps and following the Jags week 8 bye I fully expect Allen to complete for DL1 in Jacksonville. The upside is there!

Avery Williamson (LB - Pittsburgh Steelers)

Avery woke up 0-8 and went to bed 7-0! What a day that was! The move from the Jets to the Steelers will do wonders for not only his ownership but his IDP production. Avery is a big body, athletic and disruptive force on defense. He’s an excellent source or tackles, passes defended and overall big play! Go double check availability!

Josey Jewell (LB - Denver Broncos)

First thought, The Outlaw Josey Wales. One of my all-time favorite movies! Vintage Clint Eastwood! Looking at Josey Jewell, he had a solid week 8! Racking up 6 solo and 4 assisted tackles. Josey makes for a fantastic LB2 option on bye weeks and injury fill-ins! He’s also had 5+ solo tackles in 7 straight games. Add Jewell in all formats!

K.J. Wright (LB - Seattle Seahawks)

Seattle drafted kid Jordyn Brooks in the 2nd round of the 2020 draft. He looks to be the heir apparent to KJ at LB. I’ve noticed the Brooks draft selection here has lit a fire under KJ’s ass. He’s a fantastic run and has re-invented himself. He’s shining bright in coverage and has been a bright spot on an otherwise awful DST unit in SEA. KJ is 31yrs old so his productive window is closing. If you’re in win now mode add Wright any chance you can!

Bobby Okereke (LB - Indianapolis Colts)

This defense no doubt goes through LB1 Darious Leonard. Bobby has been a fantastic teammate and defensive stand-out in his own right! In week 8 Bobby had 6 solo, 1 assisted and 2 TFL (tackle for loss). Since week 4 he’s had 5+ solo tackles and 6+ solo tackles in three. He’s an easy LB2 sharing the field with Leonard and the upside is immense week to week!

Dre Greenlaw (LB - San Francisco 49ers)

We’ve mentioned Greenlaw to you this season. Yet I feel the need to say it again! Kwon Alexander was traded away basically handing Dre a starting LB gig next to young buck Fred Warner. Kwon was their coverage nickel guy. Now it’s Dre’s and I firmly believe he rarely comes off the field moving forward. So you’re looking at 90%+ of the defensive snaps for a guy playing on an offensively ravaged team. Dre has phenomenal LB upside ahead rest of the season.

Donovan Wilson (S - Dallas Cowboys)

The casual fantasy football would overlook any and all Cowboy IDP. Which is quite reasonable seeing how awful they are. On the flip side it means their defense is on the field a ton. Case in point, Donovan Wilson! When he sees 87%+ of the defensive snaps he’s put up DB1 type production. He ranks 3rd among other safeties with 5.6 solos tackles a contest. I believe he was ejected last time out for a helmet to helmet play. He’s barely owned and is a fantastic bye week/injury safety!

Antoine Winfield Jr. (DB - Tampa Bay Buccaneers)

Winfield was a trendy DB in preseason IDP drafts and hasn’t delivered. These kids progress at different rates. Look at Jeremy Chinn in Carolina, certified stud. Antoine is starting to find his way around the defensive side of the field. He’s able run downhill and assert himself in the play. Tampa has a higher end defense 8 weeks into the season and the time to add Winfield Jr. is now!

Rodney McLeod (DB - Philadelphia Eagles)

Rodney has been under the radar in IDP circles. The DB position is a dime a dozen especially if it’s not separated between CB and S. Rodney had awful game against the Cowboys but aside from that he’s averaged 6.5 solo tackles a game. The Eagles schedule is super juicy ahead. A lot of pass happy offenses ahead! Grab McLeod if you’re in a pinch.

Others to consider; TJ Edwards (PHI LB), Stephon Tuitt (PIT DE), Brandon Graham (PHI DL), Daniel Sorenson (KC S), Chauncey Gardner-Phillips (NO S/CB)

Thanks for reading! I look forward to providing more fantastic IDP waiver wire adds each week moving forward!
