What’s the easiest way to gain an advantage over your league mates in a dynasty league? The answer to that question is a lot simpler than you might think. Identify the players that everybody is sleeping on and acquire them cheap, or even better, for free! Now this is a lot easier said than done, but by the end of this article I’m going to have you racing to your leagues waiver wire to put in a claim for these three guys immediately!
Quintez Cephus (WR Detroit Lions)
Before reading any further, go and look up the Lions 2021 Depth Chart at WR. Quintez Cephus is the only WR under contract for the upcoming season as the Lions are set to lose their top 3 players at the position. There are talks that Kenny Golladay could get franchise tagged and that would certainly lower Cephus’ ceiling, but he should be locked into at least 6 or 7 targets a game regardless if Golladay is brought back or not and opportunity is every bit as important as talent in fantasy football.
It doesn’t hurt the kid has plenty of talent as well and was described as the “best WR I faced in college” by Jeff Okudah, the highest drafted CB since 1997. If it wasn’t for a bad performance at his pro day and being buried on the Lions depth chart, Cephus would be talked about as one of the better young WR’s in the game. Stash him now before the breakout happens this upcoming season.
Lynn Bowden Jr. (WR Miami Dolphins)
Sometimes it takes a few injuries ahead of you on the depth chart to finally get a chance to see the field and that was exactly the case for Lynn Bowden Jr. this past season. Over the final 6 weeks of the season, Bowden’s snap count steadily increased to the point where he was on the field for over 90% of the Dolphins offensive plays while leading the team in routes run from the slot in weeks 16 and 17. This is even more impressive considering Bowden was traded to a new team and had to learn a completely new offense just days before the NFL season started. Lynn certainly played well enough to deserve a role on the Dolphins offense going forward as well as a spot on your dynasty roster.
Sam Darnold (QB NY Jets)
Would you believe me if I said Sam Darnold was younger than Joe Burrow? Crazy, right? Can anybody name a QB who was put in a worse position than Sam Darnold has been put in? He’s had nobody to throw the ball to, an offensive line that simply cant protect him, and Adam Gase as a coach. The Jets are expected to move on from Darnold in the draft and that’s probably the best thing that could happen for his young career. Nobody is rushing out to go get Sam Darnold, but I think you should be. He can be acquired for dirt cheap right now and if he lands in the right situation (Indy/Washington) I think Sam has flashed enough to go out and potentially develop into at least an average NFL QB with top 10 upside. Do all you can to get him on as many rosters as you can before it’s too late and his price skyrockets.
