Are you in a hole already after Thursday Night Football? Did your opponent start Nyheim Hines out of desperation or stupidity and you feel like you've already lost? Did you start AJ Brown to the tune of a stinky 3 points? Then look no further, because this article was made for you! I'll be highlighting 5 starts that aren't for the faint of heart. We're in boom or bust territory here, so buckle up.
QB - Jared Goff, LA Rams
Jared Goff has been...uninspiring this season, to say the least. With an average of 20.7 Fantasy Points per game, Jared Goff has not been a "sexy" player to put in your lineup. That's all going to change this weekend when the LA Rams play the Seattle Seahawks. Gone are the days of the Legion of Boom in Seattle. Boasting the worst passing defense in the league, Seattle has consistently been in offensive shootouts this season, most of which, they have won.
Expect this matchup to be no different. Goff has offensive weapons galore in Robert Woods (AKA Bobby Trees), Cooper Kupp, Josh Reynolds, Van Jefferson, and the underutilized Cam Akers out of the backfield. The Rams have the weapons to at least keep pace with the Seahawks, which mean fantasy points aplenty for Jared Goff. Start him if you're in need of a high-upside play, as he could easily finish Top-5 at the position this week.
*Beware* there is risk involved with starting Goff. The game could very well be controlled with the ground game, although I do not expect it to be the most likely outcome of this matchup.
RB - Antonio Gibson, Washington Football Team
*Sigh* I know, Antonio Gibson hasn't been getting the carries and usage that he deserves (screams into the void at JD McKissic). However, the case for a boom week is extremely compelling in this week's matchup against the Detroit Lions; who, if you didn't know, have the worst run defense in the league. Dalvin Cook absolutely victimized the Detroit Defense last weekend. It's not out of the range of outcomes for Antonio Gibson to have 10 carries for 100 yards against this defense, that's just how bad they are.
Washington could jump out to an early lead this week, meaning they pound the rock with Gibson. The one caution I will advise to Gibson manager is that, if Washington gets down by multiple scores in this game, then JD McKissic is going to eat into a lot of Gibson's work. The risk is worth the reward, as Gibson is staring down the barrel at a possible Top-10 finish at the position this week.
WR - DJ Chark - Jacksonville Jaguars
Baby Chark has been frustrating to roster this year, to say the least. But not all hope is lost, as we saw his monster performance last week with Jake Luton at the helm. It's obvious Chark is Luton's favorite target. As far as matchup goes this week, it's a bit misleading at first. The Packers have made it difficult for opposing WRs to produce for fantasy, but that's with a healthy Jaire Alexander in the lineup. Alexander is expected to miss this weekend's game, opening up the flood gates for Chark's potential. The Jaguars should be trailing in this game, as they have for most, so expect them to air the ball out all day long. Chark could be another Top-5 finisher at his position if he fulfills the monster potential this week.
TE - Mike Gesicki, Miami Dolphins
Did you know the LA Chargers have allowed a Tight End to score a touchdown in five of their past seven games? You do now. Dial up Gesicki this week in what figures to be an offensive shootout between Justin Herbert and Tua Tagovailoa. Couple the game script with that fact that Dolphins' WR Preston Williams was just designated for IR, and Gesicki suddenly becomes a juicy TE streamer for this week that might just be able to win you your week. Don't forget, Gesicki can make plays like this.
DST - Philadelphia Eagles D vs. NYG
Did you now that the Eagles had three sacks, one interception and two fumble recoveries against the Giants in Week 7? We all know Danny Dimes is a turnover machine. At worst, the Eagles' D will get you points from a turnover and a few sacks. At best, they could be a 20 point week-winning type of Defense play is Daniel Jones collapses, again. Kind of like this.
